JACOB MARKSTROM OUT 10–14 DAYS FOR FLORIDA
The Panthers will be without starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom for approximately 10–14 days after he was struck by a puck during Monday's practice.
Head coach Paul Maurice confirmed the expected absence Tuesday.
Markstrom, 36, has started the season with a 3-1-1 record, a 2.21 goals-against average and an .897 save percentage.
Florida has recalled Cooper Black from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League to back up Akira Schmid.
The injury creates an early test of the Panthers' goaltending depth, with Schmid expected to take on additional responsibility.
MIKAEL BACKLUND DAY-TO-DAY FOR CALGARY
Calgary Flames captain Mikael Backlund is day-to-day with an upper-body injury after taking a hit from Carolina's William Carrier during Sunday's 3-2 victory.
Backlund missed Tuesday's practice.
The 37-year-old has one goal and one assist through eight games. Beyond his scoring, his defensive responsibilities and leadership make his availability important.
Calgary next faces Minnesota on Thursday.
NICO STURM RETURNS FOR MINNESOTA
The Wild received encouraging news with Nico Sturm returning to the lineup Tuesday against Edmonton.
Sturm missed three games after a puck struck his head near his helmet's ear opening, requiring three stitches and concussion-protocol evaluation.
He is returning with additional ear protection.
His presence strengthens Minnesota's penalty kill and faceoff options. Rookie Rieger Lorenz will be a healthy scratch.
DALLAS LOSES ESA LINDELL
The Dallas Stars will be without defenseman Esa Lindell for at least a week because of a lower-body injury sustained while blocking a shot against Chicago.
Lindell has recorded 18 blocked shots in eight games this season.
His absence removes an experienced defensive presence from the Stars' lineup and could force adjustments to their defensive pairings.
With the NHL schedule gaining momentum, these injuries could influence lineup decisions and early-season results. Florida's goaltending situation and Dallas' defensive depth are particularly important developments to monitor over the coming week.
