Last night and today’s board
The MLB postseason had no games on Friday, October 9, after the Dodgers, Brewers, and Rays reached the League Championship Series on Wednesday. The Guardians and White Sox are the only Division Series matchup still playing after Cleveland's 9-5 win in Game 4 on Thursday tied their best-of-five set at 2-2.
The Chicago White Sox visit the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on Saturday in ALDS Game 5. First pitch is 8 p.m. Eastern on TBS, truTV, UniMas, and HBO Max. The winner opens the ALCS at Tampa Bay on Monday. Chicago is chasing its first ALCS berth since its 2005 World Series title. The White Sox missed a chance to clinch the series at Rate Field in Game 4 after taking a 2-0 lead.
Sean Burke will start for Chicago after working 5 1/3 innings in bulk relief in Game 2, when he allowed one hit and one run. Gavin Williams will start for Cleveland despite throwing 18 pitches in relief to record the final three outs in Game 4 on Thursday. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Friday that the outing would work like a high-intensity bullpen session and that Williams felt good and is ready for Game 5. Williams struck out 11 White Sox over five innings in his Game 2 start.
The road team has won four straight games in the series. Cleveland lost the first two games at Progressive Field before winning Game 3 and Game 4 in Chicago. White Sox manager Will Venable said every arm will be available for Game 5. Both clubs are playing for a meeting with the Rays, who swept the Yankees to reach the ALCS.
